Original concept, writer and maker of installation arts:
Selena de Carvalho is an experimental artist whose work responds to notions of personal ecology and human interaction with the environment. Her practice is centred around raising the voices of more than human agents, witnessing and with-nessing ecological complexity.

This project was initiated by
Selena de Carvalho & made possible with the generosity of Hobart City Council.

Nematode Dreams was inspired by an anecdote from Aviva Reed, who shared that the compacted dark soil under city streets is a niche environment where Nematodes proliferate. It sparked a curiosity, thinking about the fiction of urban and built spaces as somehow being outside ‘the environment’, a falsehood exemplified by these extremophiles occupying the sub-terrain. Dissolving distinctions between human and more-than-human worlds is a stream that runs through the work, recognising life is ecological & culture is bio-diverse. That's also why we chose to make the work outside designated 'cultural' spaces. We hope you enjoy the journey.

Co-creator and maker of chandelier installation:
Caitlin Fargher is a multi-disciplinary artist and arts-worker working in sculptural installation and curating. Her sculptural work is created through an embodied practice that explores histories, sites, ecologies and memories. Engineering, gardening, cooking, environmental systems, historical research and family narratives inform her methods of making.
